Dr. Alberto V. Amorsolo, Jr.
 

  PROFILE

Dr. Alberto V. Amorsolo, Jr. is the current Chairman of the Department of Mining, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines.  He graduated with M.S. and PhD. in Materials Science from the University of Rochester in New York, U.S.A. in 1994 and 1997, respectively under scholarship from the Department of Science and Technology-Engineering and Science Education Project (DOST-ESEP).  Prior to that, he earned his B.S. and M.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of the Philippines in 1981 and 1987, respectively.

Dr. Amorsolo has been actively engaged in research in his career. He had been recipient of a number of training and exchange scientist grants to Japan (Tohoku University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Sophia University and Toyohashi University of Technology) under either JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) or JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science).  Dr. Amorsolo is currently a full-time Associate Professor of the University of the Philippines. He has been in teaching in both the undergraduate and graduate programs in metallurgy and materials science and engineering in UP since 1981. His international publications have dealt with topics on thermal stability and rapid thermal processing of titanium silicide films for microelectronic applications.  He has also lectured for semiconductor companies on materials science fundamentals and failure analysis in addition to rendering private sector consultancy services.

Dr. Amorsolo is presently the President of the Microscopy Society of the Philippines (Microsphil).
