Dr. Joel S. Marciano Jr. obtained his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of the Philippines in 1994 and his PhD in Electrical Engineering at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia in 2001. He is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) of the University of the Philippines and is also an assistant chairman of the said department. He also heads the Communications Engineering Laboratory - an academic laboratory involved in wireless communications, RF/Microwave systems and electromagnetics research. His areas of research specialization include antenna array processing, RF/microwave circuits, physical and MAC layers of wireless networks, digital signal processing for communications and information theory. He has served as consultant to the Advanced Science and Technology Institute and Eazix Incorporated in the area of wireless communications competency development. Since 2001, he has worked with Eazix engineers on antenna design, RF system and board level testing of 802.11b (Wifi), 802.11g and Bluetooth transceivers.
Dr. Marciano is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Institute of Electronics and Communications Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP). He was a recipient of the Most Outstanding Instructor Award from the UP Alumni Engineers in 1995 and currently holds a PHINMA Teaching and Research Grant. |
